January, as symbolised by the two-headed Roman god Janus, is a time for looking back and looking forwards; of memories of the last year and plans for the next. And that is just what the Watermill newsletter is doing this month.
Our memories include a saxophone Flashmob, rides on vintage Vespas, as our gardener Flavio Terenzoni played Gregory Peck to our guests Audrey Hepburn, and convivial conversations as the shadows lengthened on the vine verandah or in the secluded walled garden.
Once the Flashmob musicians had made their appearances, emerging magically from various gardens and terraces, they stood in the courtyard and played one of Bill’s favourites: the intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana. Here it is:
