The Watermill at Posara has teamed up with our friend and inspiring painting tutor Mike Willdridge, to produce an ongoing series of free, interactive, online painting sessions. These have already proved extremely popular with our guests and they are creating a real sense of international community in these difficult times. Our guests have called them ‘morale boosting’ and ‘a wonderful distraction’.

Although the sessions are free we would very much appreciate a donation for our time and effort. You can donate HERE. If you prefer to donate using some system other than PayPal, please just ASK.

The pictures at the top of this page show details of just some of the subjects Mike and his guests have tackled in our online sessions so far. Paintings of other subjects are shown to the right of this text. They have been a simple as a potato or a couple of lemons or as complicated as the an open-air market in a French village, or a gaggle of geese in front of an old barn.

We have organised more of these inspiring sessions. They are designed to help you brush up your painting skills and, although they are completely free, many of our guests have generously sent us donations, for which many thanks.

Mike Willdridge's online painting sessions

Here is the list and dates of the next Mike Willdridge's sessions, together with the subject we will be painting. Each session will start at 2:30pm (UK time).

29 October 2020 - Still life - Flowers

12 November 2020 - Autumnal scene with couple walking a dog

When you register with Lois (using the registration form), we will send you images of the scene and a painting of it by Mike to inspire you. We’ll also give you a link to a suggested materials list and colours for your palette.

After the session we will send you a link to an exclusive video that will enable to you revisit Mike’s step-by-step teaching. Many of our guests also send us pictures of their own efforts during the sessions, and there will also be another exclusive Internet link to a Gallery of these pictures, so you will be able to see what everyone has achieved.

Alls quite in Florence
Just a few of the paintings of the French market from our online guests

Unlike many online painting programmes, Mike’s will not expect you to ‘look over his shoulder’ for a long demonstration, and perhaps be allowed to ask the odd question or two. No, you will be painting along at more or less the same time, trying out the watercolour techniques that Mike has shown you, step-by-step. He will demonstrate some basic techniques for only a few minutes before you start painting the same subject at home. Then, after you have had your turn, Mike will move onto the next part of the process. Lois will be on hand to feed your questions. The session will last a couple of hours.

We would love you to join us and we are sure you will find the online, interactive sessions both illuminating and inspiring – and a very welcome distraction for the daily worries of these times.

Happy painting!

And there's more!
A 'virtual' painting week at the Watermill with Mike Willdridge

In an exciting development, we have teamed up with Mike again to produce an online, interactive, ‘virtual’ Watermill painting week. You will paint along with Mike for a couple of hours each day seven days, ‘visiting’ the stunning locations that we go to during a real painting week at the Watermill.

Sunrise at theWatermill in Italy

And, as well as daily paint-along sessions, we will send you mouth-watering Watermill recipes to tickle your tastebuds, exclusive videos to refresh your memory, a daily Gallery of participants’ paintings -- and you’ll even have a chance to win one of Mike’s outstanding paintings.

It’s the next best thing to being here and it will bring Italian sunshine and memories of la Bella Vita to brighten your days. Of course, it’s not quite the same as the real thing, but this exciting Watermill ‘virtual} painting week, will, at least, give you a flavour of a creative painting course at the Watermill.

Because of all the work involved, we are going to have to make a small charge for this course, but we think it’s very reasonable: just £70 (GB pounds) for all seven sessions. (This is a block booking, but if you can’t make one of the sessions, you will still be able to catch up with access to the video, and still be able to see the Gallery and have a chance to win one of Mike’s paintings.) Please register using the contact form, asking for the 'virtual week at the watermill'.

This amazing week will run from Saturday 28 November 2020 until Friday 4 December 2020. Each session will start at 2:30pm (UK time). When you’ve enjoyed the Watermill online, come and join us for the real thing!

Painting in the Watermill garden

As we’ve said, the ‘virtual’ week will be great fun, but not the real thing. Why don’t you join us for a proper fun-filled, sun-filled, inspiring painting week at the Watermill itself. If you just click HERE will take you back to our painting holidays section and you can choose when you would like to come. We are looking forward to welcoming you here.

Painting online with Rebecca

Painting by Rebecca de Mendonça at the Watermill in Tuscany, Italy

We’ve also started exciting masterclasses in pastels with Rebecca de Mendonça. The best way to keep in the picture (sorry for the pun!) is either visiting and bookmarking this page or through the Watermill's Facebook page, which you can see by clicking HERE. If you 'Like' our Facebook page, you will receive regular notifications of our posts. You might also like to check out the daily Watermill Blog, which you can see by clicking HERE.

When you register with Lois (using the contact form, asking for 'Rebecca''s online sessions'), we’ll send you a link to a suggested materials list and colours for your palette. All those who register for Rebecca's course will also receive a link to a video of the session after the event, for you to revisit her tutorial in your own time.

Although the sessions are free we would very much appreciate a donation for our time and effort. You can donate HERE. If you prefer to donate using some system other than PayPal, please just ASK.
