Everyone on Mary Padgett’s pastel painting week here at the Watermill seems to be having a wonderful time getting their hands dirty and capturing the wonderful surroundings of the Watermill with pastel. Meanwhile, Mary’s husband Bill ‘Buzz’ Padgett, officially a non-participating partner, but a talented artist in his own right, has been sketching away too – on his phone.
That’s his picture above of the 17th century mill in our complex, made on his mobile phone with a fascinating programme called Procreate, a ‘complete art studio’, which enables you to paint and sketch on your phone or tablet. The marvels of modern technology,

Buzz says: “I love drawing, sketching, painting, and writing poetry; also I love walking and traveling. I do most of my work onsite when the moment is still fresh, immediate. I feel very comfortable using both analog and digital tools to capture those moments. I am a designer who will always love solving a problem and a retired professor of design who loves teaching and misses his students. I do all these things because of the love of the process and the joy of connecting with the world by making art.”
Thank you very much indeed for sharing that with us, Buzz, and thanks to Mary and our painting guests for such a happy week.
