The picture above of Brienne Brown and her guests on a Watermill painting course triggered a childhood memory of a famous painting (in my day at least) by John Everett Millais, called ‘The Boy of Raleigh’, where the famous explorer and his chum are inspired by stirring tales of the sea.
There is something of the same feel with Brienne’s group as she demonstrates how to paint the valley landscape leading to Posara, below the ancient city walls of Fivizzano. Stirring deeds have occurred here too, not least the battering of the city walls by the French King Charles VIII, way back in 1494. Here’s Brienne’s painting of the valley, with Posara in the distance.
Yesterday was yet another inspiring day during a Watermill painting week. Not only do our Tuesdays include painting such views, but sketching in the local Fivizzano market and enjoying a panino and scoops of delicious home-made ice cream in the local gelateria. (All part of a Watermill painting course exclusive deal).
We’d love you to join us for a unique blend of history, inspiration and degustation!
