I don’t know about you, but I am fascinated watching our Watermill tutors at work and seeing wonderful paintings emerge, almost like magic. from a blank sheet of paper.
Paintings like Tim Wilmot’s evocative interpretation of the inside of our 19th century mill above, complete with ancient millstones, grain hoppers, and exposed chestnut roof beams. Tim painted this during one of his online sessions for the Watermill and it proved very popular.
Tim usually prefers to paint outdoors and finds an inexhaustible supply of subjects in the stunning scenery in and around the Watermill. You’ll be doing just that his latest Watermill painting course this October and we would love you to join him — indoors or out!
Tim will be with us again for another of his inspiring week-long watercolour courses, from Saturday 2 October to Saturday 9 October 2021.Below is his impression of the peaceful convent that is our location on Thursdays during a painting week.
And here’s Tim’s wonderfully loose watercolour, a stunning view of the Apuan Alps from an ancient hilltop village where we go to paint on Fridays, before enjoying lunch at a gourmet restaurant.
Your tutor Tim Wilmot: As well as an exciting artist, Tim is also an inspiring teacher and on his course, suitable for all levels, he’ll help you to improve your drawing skills, loosen up your style, learn how to incorporate figures in a landscape as well as nurturing you own artistic ambitions.
Tim, from Bristol in the UK, specialises in watercolours, exploiting the medium with tone and light. Tim says: “I seem to have an affinity with painting landscapes, although I have dabbled with portraits and still life in the past, but always come back to landscapes. I prefer a loose or impressionistic style when I paint, and I hope you like their informality.â€
Here’s a comment from a student on Tim’s last course at the Watermill: “Everything was perfect, your welcome, the luxurious accommodation, and the delicious food, Tim’s tuition was first-class and it was lovely to be able to sit and paint all day.†What a wonderful way to celebrate your freedom!
Tim’s vibrant picture below is of The Watermill and river Rosaro flowing by.
And here’s Tim’s impression of some painters in the Watermill walled garden.
Put yourself in the picture. We have eight people already booked into Tim’s course, so we have room for three or four more painters and their non-painting partners, if they would like to join them.
