Yes, more than 100 people joined Watermill painting tutor Pamme Turner yesterday to learn how to capture the beauty of their own backyards. (As we said in a previous blog, Americans and British people have a different interpretation of the word: in Britain, a backyard is generally a small space with no garden, but in the USA, the term can extend to quite a large back garden. The backyard that Pamme and her guests painted was the Watermill courtyard, with one of our collection of demijohns in a prominent position.
You could be painting the real thing and dozens of other inspiring subjects if you join Pamme for her week-long painting course at the Watermill this Summer. It’s called ‘Plein air essentials in watercolours and gouache,’ and it runs from Saturday 24 August to Saturday 31 August.
Pamme Turner is a professional artist and college professor with multiple degrees in the Fine Arts. In this week-long workshop, designed for painters of all levels, you’ll learn to paint with both transparent watercolours and/or opaque gouache ‘en plein air,’ with an emphasis on beautiful techniques.
A comment from a couple on Pamme’s course in 2023: “Such a great experience! We were truly spoiled and made to feel like personal friends. We learned so much from Pamme, who gave her all to everyone, whatever their level of experience. One of our most memorable holidays.” Another student said: “More educational than a whole college semester! And so much more fun!”
Everything is included in the cost of your holiday at the watermill: tuition, accommodation, pre-dinner aperitifs, all meals and wines (including outings to charming local restaurants) and all local transportation (including transfers to Pisa airport and an excursion by train to Lucca or the Cinque Terre).
You get to Pisa, Italy, we do the rest!
And you will be Cool and Green: all our rooms are air-conditioned, powered by photovoltaic panels which make us self-sufficient in electricity.
