I have only recently come upon this wonderful, atmospheric watercolour of the 13th century Malaspina castle in Verrucola, one of the locations on our Watermill painting courses. Isn’t it a stunningly evocative painting? Here’s another:
We go to paint at Verrucola every Monday on a painting course and we have other amazing locations as well: the weekly market in the nearby walled town of Fivizzano (above), a tranquil 17th century convent, and a hilltop village with magnificent views of the mighty Apuan Alps, the marble mountains of Carrara. and the villages nestling beneath them (below):
And, of course, there are endless subjects to paint at the Watermill itself:
Keiko would love you to join her on her course here next June (details and a link below).
Keiko Tanabe, who was born in Kyoto, Japan and now lives in San Diego, California, USA, has gained worldwide recognition for her sensitive watercolours, which have featured in in many national and international exhibitions. Keiko has also tutored numerous workshops around the world.
Her course at the Watermill is designed provide a better understanding of methods and techniques to create a watercolour painting that is full of light and atmosphere. The workshop is suitable for all levels, but a basic knowledge is recommended.
A comment from a guest on Keiko’s previous course at the Watermill: “A fantastically beautiful setting and accommodation, with amazing hospitality, and food to die for. A really special group of people, we painted with the superb artist Keiko Tanabe, such a great lady, such fun, and so generous with her time…for me it was the trip of a lifetime!”
