It was a wet and windy day yesterday in Posara and in Fivizzano, the nearby walled mediaeval town painters went to the (bedraggled) market. But they didn’t allow the rain to dampen their spirits nor their creativity. And Watermill tutor Randy Hale was always on hand with plenty of tips to help them produce great plein air paintings, even on rainy dayss:
Embrace the Atmosphere: Rain adds an enchanting touch to your painting. Capture the misty ambiance and the vibrant colours that come alive in the rain-soaked landscapes.
Protect Your Gear: Shield your art supplies from the rain with a portable umbrella or set up under a cosy shelter. Don’t forget a waterproof cover for your easel or painting surface!
Experiment with Reflections: Rain creates beautiful reflections on surfaces. Incorporate puddles and wet surfaces to add depth and interest to your artwork.
Be Bold with Colours: Rainy days offer an opportunity to play with bold and vibrant colours. Don’t be afraid to experiment and bring out the brilliance of your palette!
In sharp contrast to a rainy Fivizzano here’s Is a lovely picture of a glowing rose against the sun-drenched stone of the southern façade of the Watermill, taken with pride by gardener Flavio Terenzoni,
