You would have thought that by the time we’d renovated the ceiling beams, renewed the windows, put up new lights, tiled the floor and had the washing machines and tumble dryer delivered, we’d be almost done. But no! We still have to put in the sink, make tables to cover (and preserve) the remains of the ancient millstones, put up the Victorian drying racks (to be hauled on pulleys to the ceiling. Did you have one at home?)…
… and then there’s cupboards! We need cupboards like they’re going out of style.
Lois spent the last Saturday, armed with a screwdriver and instruction booklets, putting together no fewer than 20 cupboards of various shapes and sizes – and still tossed and turned on Saturday night worrying that she had enough shelves!
But we’re getting there, and it’s all going to be terrific when it’s finished. Here is Lois’s latest progress report.
Incidentally, the laundry is in part of the 19th century Watermill. (There were three different mills here, the oldest dating from the 17th century). A couple of years back, Watermill tutor Tim Wilmot made this stunning watercolour of the site.
