*And soon we will be even Cooler and Greener, with a major new initiative. Watch this space!
As you may know, more than three years ago we installed at the Watermill a hidden array of photovoltaic panels on our south-facing roofs, to produce electricity from the sun. In each full year we produce at least 14,000 kWh, more than enough to make us self-sufficient in electricity, even powering the extensive air-conditioning system that we have in all our rooms, both public rooms like the dining room, sitting room and studio, and also in all our bedrooms and suites.
And today was another red-letter day. As the screenshot from our photovoltaic app shows (not very clearly, I’m afraid), round about noon today the annual 2022 production was 14,337 KwH, overtaking last year’s figure (14,334 KwH) – and there are still six days to go.
And, what’s more, by making our own electricity we have avoided more than 35 tonnes of carbon dioxide production from conventional power stations. We are feeling quite proud, even though it is a drop in the ocean compared with, say, the polluting output of Chinese coal-powered stations.
All part of our efforts to make the Watermill Cool and Green.
And next year with a new initiative on cutting plastic waste, we’ll be even Cooler and Greener. We are going to stop 40,000 plastic bottles polluting the world’s oceans. We will tell you how before the end of the year. Watch this space!
