The explosive energy of ice cliffs sheering away from the face of a glacier is the chilling yet thrilling subject of Randy Hale’s next online, interactive painting session in partnership with the Watermill on. A couple of dozen people have already signed up and we’d love you to join them for the Zoom session on Thursday 1 December, painting along with Randy in the warmth of your own home. The session starts at 3:30 pm English time (GMT), 4:30 pm European time. Please check what this means in your own time zone. You can sign up by clicking here. The session will last two to three hours.
That’s Randy’s practice painting above – and here’s a photo of the scene.
If you can’t make it on the day, all participants will also receive a video of the event so that they can paint this scene in their own time own time later. You are also invited to join an exclusive online gallery to show off your painting. (And when you’ve enjoyed your ‘virtual’ session we hope it will persuade you to sign up for the ‘real thing,’ a week-long painting course at the Watermill itself.)
Unlike many online painting tutors, Randy will not expect you to ‘look over his shoulder’ for a long demonstration, and perhaps be allowed to ask the odd question or two. No, you will be painting along at more or less the same time, trying out the watercolour techniques that Randy shows you, step-by-step. He will demonstrate some basic techniques for only a few minutes before you start painting the same subject at home. Then, after you’ve been given a little time to catch up, Randy will move onto the next part of the process. Lois Breckon from The Watermill at Posara will be on hand during the session to feed your questions.
To register, please click here.
When you register for the session, you will be asked for a donation. Some people ask how much this should be and so we suggest a minimum of £20 (English pounds). Our Zoom painting demonstrations do take quite a bit of time in preparation and administration and your support is very much appreciated. With your generosity we can plan and run further sessions and, more importantly, provide a regular meeting place for creativity, camaraderie and fun. We hope that you enjoy the international, online painting community that we have created.
Once you have registered you will be provided with two links. The first is the Zoom link for you to join the session. Please note that the start time is 3:30pm (UK time, GMT).
The second link is where you will find the photograph that you will paint, a sample drawing, a practice painting, and a list of equipment and colours for your palette. If you would like to paint along with Randy, be warned that he works fast and you may like to have your own drawing ready.
After the event, you are invited to add your painting to the private gallery, where you will be able to view the same scene uploaded by your fellow painters on Zoom. In addition, we will send you a link to a video of this session that will enable to you revisit Randy’s step-by-step teaching. You can sign up by clicking here.
When you have painted with Randy online, why not join him for real at the Watermill in Tuscany Italy next summer? We would love to welcome you here. And don’t forget it if you book Randy’s 2023 cost now you be able to take advantage of our special Early Bird offer: £75 (English pounds) off if you book before the end of this year. At the moment, Randy is fully booked, but don’t despair: there are often cancellations. If you’d like to come on Randy’s Watermill week, please let us know via the Watermill Contact Form, by clicking here. We will put you on a waiting list.
