It pays to be an early bird (See below).
On Thursdays, after their exertions on their excursions, either to the beautiful walled city of Lucca or the spectacular villages of the Cinque Terre, we take our painting guests to the tranquil calm of the nearby Convento del Carmine.
This peaceful 16th century monastery (it was the home to monks, not nuns) is now a romantic setting for wedding, owned by friends of ours who allow us to use it exclusively for a painting day on Thursdays. It is wonderful to relax in the extensive grounds, to enjoy a delicious Watermill picnic and to try to capture those devilishly difficult curves and perspectives in the arches of the cloisters.
Tim Wilmot took our guests to the convent yesterday and above is his short video as they set up in the grounds. And here’s a watercolour of the convent Tim made on a previous visit.
Tim will be with us again next year (details and a link below) and would love you to join him at the convent and the other stunning locations we visit on a Watermill painting week: a castle, a walled mediaeval town, a thousand-year-old hilltop village with marvellous views of the marble mountains of Carrara. To say nothing of inspiring tuition, warm hospitality, delicious food and wine and, of course, the convivial company of like-minded people.
We have a special Early Bird discount offer: £75 (English pounds) off the cost of Tim’s 2023 course if you book before 31 December 2022.
Now is the time to book to enjoy eager anticipation and quiet contemplation of your next Watermill holiday. We already have seven people booked into his course, so there’s room for only five more.
