Profile

Watercolours and drawing

Ted Dansey is an artist from Melbourne, Australia, with more than 30 years’ experience in watercolour painting. A figurative painter in the genre of traditional impressionism, Ted believes that a painting needs to be honest and reflect your personality. He says: “I have drawn for as long as I care to remember. I love painting 'en plein air', teaching and demonstrating.” He adds: “My philosophy is ‘Keep it Simple’, I paint because I love to paint with a desire to be the best I can be, and anything it brings is but a bonus.”

One of his students says: “Ted is a very good teacher, so encouraging, so skilful, so helpful and extraordinarily patient -- and such a wonderful artist. When he demonstrate it’s like watching magic!”

Ted’s course will look at the importance of the sketchbook and planning your work. You’ll break down complex subjects, simplifying, eliminating the unnecessary. Ted says: “You’ll learn to ‘see’ the image and paint the ‘feeling’”.

Following a successful career as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator, Ted left to become the Manager of the Victorian Artists Society and to follow a life-long dream. He won their Artist of the Year in 2007 and became a Fellow in 2011. He has held several solo and group exhibitions since 2000 and been the recipient of many awards. His work is held in many private and corporate collections, both in Australia and overseas.
