Alleyway Umbria Italy (detail)

Pen & Wash 26cmx19cm

This alleyway with its pretty flowers in pots is one of many in Umbria. It was just asking to be painted.... that's all :)

Sari studies

Watercolour approx. 16cmx9cm each

During a fabulous painting holiday to India, I felt moved to paint these small studies of the beautiful saris women wore. Bright jewels in the midst of organised chaos.

Wall plaque

Watercolour approx. 26cmx20cm

This lovely terracotta wall plaque looked pensively on to the terrace everyday where I once stayed. I painted her then added some local wildlife and flowers to make the finished painting. I ended up writing a story about it, which I am continuing to illustrate at the moment.

Cricket on impatiens

Watercolour 14cm diameter

This delightful cricket and its mate kept me awake with their cheerful mating calls. I was excited to be able to paint it in the flowerpot outside my room.

Profile

Either pen & wash, watercolour, graphite pencil or coloured pencil

Belinda Biggs has gained international recognition for her prize-winning illustrations of the natural world. Her works are treasured in private and public collections worldwide. When tutoring painting holidays, however, she encourages her students to create in a more laid-back style, using pen & wash, watercolour, graphite pencil or coloured pencil.

She teaches classes, workshops and painting holidays which are regularly booked out. Belinda says: “I absolutely love Italy, so I am delighted to be returning once again.

During Belinda’s week-long holiday in this picturesque part of Tuscany, we’ll paint and draw anything from everyday objects to the beautiful scenery. Beginners are welcome. A comment from one of Belinda’s previous students: “Her ability to extract the hidden talents of her pupils comes through her easy-going attitude, and her own talents as an accomplished artist.”

Belinda is a keen member of the Central Coast Watercolour Society NSW (Life Member and committee position as Graphic Artist), the Association of British Botanical Artists and the Australian Guild of Realist Artists.

She exhibits several times a year and has won many awards for her painting and drawing, including selection for the prestigious 'Focus on Nature XIII' and 'Focus on Nature XV' with the New York State Museum , the 'Mortimer Art Prize' (the very best in realism), the Margaret Flockton Scientific Illustration Award at the Herbarium NSW, Shirley Sherwood Gallery Kew Gardens London and has her works in private and public collections worldwide. Praise from some of Belinda’s previous students

I find Belinda to be an excellent teacher who is very generous in sharing her wealth of expertise. She is always kind, patient and encouraging. I am blessed to spend time with her and continue to be inspired by her incredible works. CD

As I had no previous experience with painting, I was initially worried that I'd be like a fish out of water, but this was not the case. In fact far from it. I quickly realised that Belinda was a very talented artist with a wealth of knowledge. Through her patient and relaxed approach to teaching she has instilled in me a great love for watercolour painting and an appreciation of art in general. Belinda is an amazing teacher. AS

I have been painting in watercolour for nearly 10 years and have been a student of Belinda Biggs in a variety of formats for eight of those years. Belinda has wonderful skills in encouraging new artists, structuring excellent lesson plans to ensure sound skill development, motivating and inspiring growing artists and providing a guiding hand of encouragement. I thoroughly enjoyed attending one of Belinda's overseas painting trips. Belinda's tuition was excellent. She was casual, friendly and very helpful as she worked one-to-one with our paintings. Belinda also shined in her group tuition. She was always well prepared and was generous in conveying her intimate knowledge and skills of watercolour painting. SM
