We arrived very late at night and had absolutely no idea of the magnificent setting we found ourselves in until the next morning; it was simply magical with mountains, wooded hills, and grounds dipping down to the gurgling river. So relaxing, with no noisy intrusion from the outside world. The accommodation was of very good standard, with a firm bed, spacious living room/kitchenette, and a table that would easily seat at least four. The Watermill has a number of such apartments around a courtyard, plus two garden areas with some tables, chairs and sun loungers. There is even a plunge pool for those who feel adventurous enough to try it, despite the chilly waters. Wifi internet is freely available in the courtyard area for those who wish to use it, but not in the rooms as the walls are too thick - it was built a long time ago!
"What were the highlights? Well four really, firstly the amazing friendliness of those living in Posara and Fivizzano. Secondly, a wonderful display of fireflies in the courtyard and garden area on a couple of nights. Thirdly, lunch at Ristorante Al Vecchio Tino, Monte dei Bianchi, excellent views high up in the hills, excellent menu by a Paris trained chef and friendly service and prices. Finally, having the good luck to be at the Watermill at the same time as Bill, Lois and their two daughters. Always ready to chat and be friendly, they made one feel so welcome (even with glasses of wine!) that it was a real pleasure to spend time with them and listen to their daughters practicing their piano and trumpet pieces, which they both do to a very high standard. An external decorator even burst into spontaneous applause after a trumpet rendition of La Cucaracha and I was left mentally humming it for a number of hours!
"Any drawbacks? Only one really, the car park is quite small and a little difficult to get into/out of, especially if a neighbour has their car parked near to the entrance. My advice is to scale down your (hired) vehicle as much as you can for the car park, as well as navigating the narrow local lanes.

We all enjoyed our week and loved the setting of the watermill and surroundings. My daughter and I spent many an afternoon submerged in the natural spa created by those huge rocks in the river. The week went so quickly but we thank you for providing a very memorable first holiday in Italy."

A real highlight this time was engaging with the local people which was a wonderful experience.They offered us such warm and generous hospitality.
