Knitting mystry blankets by Debbie Abrahams

Debbie Abrahams is a specialist in the field of colour work and beading and is best known for her Mystery Blanket and Cushion Clubs which have been become a global success with over one thousand knitters from all over the world signed up to her annual projects: “Blanket squares are the perfect vehicle for my designing, giving me the freedom to explore colour, texture and embellishment within a set number of stitches and rows for each block – it’s just pure adventure!” Throughout her entire 20+ year career she has worked alongside renowned handknit company Rowan Yarns, both as a Designer and a Design Consultant for the brand.

On Debbie’s website at www.debbieabrahams.com - you will find bright colourful knitted home and fashion accessories, which are embellished with sparkling beads from her own bead collection: “To me it is important to work with high quality yarns and embellishments so that the whole knitting experience is a treat from start to finish. Colour is my passion so Rowan are the perfect match for me with their beautiful fibres and mouth-watering colour palettes.”

The pictures show the 2021 One Thousand & One Nights Mystery Blanket, one of Debbie’s more recent Mystery Blanket designs that combines a vibrant, rich colourway with sparkling beads and textured stitches, and the 2022 Deco Dreams Mystery Blanket, rich in intarsia colour work and embellishment. Its subtle and sophisticated colour palette with geometric and tessellating patterns was designed to celebrate the one-hundred year anniversary of the Art Deco movement.

Debbie’s Watermill workshop project

In 2024 you will be working with Debbie on a specially designed project that will incorporate several different knitting techniques, including some colour work, knitting with beads, surface embroidery and textured stitches. The project will use Rowan yarns and Debbie Abrahams Beads.

Debbie says: “My workshop projects are set at a skill level to suit all knitters who can knit and purl and offer each participant the opportunity to try out new exciting skills in a friendly and informal environment. Techniques will be taught in a clear and concise way, and with my help and guidance throughout the workshops knitters will gain the confidence to create beautiful knitted accessories.”

Praise from some of Debbie’s previous students

We thoroughly enjoyed it... We learnt a lot and indulged in the luxury of knitting as much as we wanted with no distractions and enjoyed the fun and sharing with like minded new friends! Everything you do is so nicely done, lots of lovely little touches, and you are so kind and generous with your encouragement! DM

I think that I enjoyed this course more than any of the many courses which I have been to. I liked the 'learning on request', the sitting in groups rather than a big horseshoe and the general relaxed feel. VF

We have been buzzing since our return and showing our lovely projects to the rest of our knitting group. I don’t know how you find new challenges for us all and this was completely unexpected and unusual. As ever your positive and helpful tuition and provision of materials was spot on! CB
