We are not in the habit of passing on cute social media pictures, amusing and uplifting as they may be, but we couldn’t resist this one (or rather, these two: see the second one below).

The picture above was taken 33 years ago by the Hungarian photographer Attila Manek in a market in Budapest. A young mother is choosing fruits and vegetables but, elegant as she is (she looks rather like Princess Diana), one’s eyes are quickly drawn to her baby, who she is carrying in a plastic bag. And doesn’t the baby look like she’s enjoying it? No Kensington Palace nanny nor Silver Cross perambulator for her. The picture became a classic and has been circulating on the internet for many years.

Thirty-one years later, the photographer tracked down mother and daughter and persuaded them to return to the market to celebrate the event. The mother is as beautiful as ever and the daughter has blossomed into an attractive and vivacious young woman.

So, we have no regrets taking up your time with these two cute Internet offerings. We hope that they have brightened your day.
