Crochet fit for the catwalk!
Ruth is a Knit and Crochet designer, author, pattern maker, teacher, lecturer and total yarnaholic!
After graduating with a BA Hons in Fashion Design, Ruth has now worked in the industry in various capacities for more than 40 years. In this time she has designed for leading high street brands; produced four knitting/crochet books; appeared on British daytime TV as a knit expert; produced custom knits for film, TV, advertising and promotions; had her own hand-knit label “Herring” producing high end hand knits for leading stores and a range of knitting kits; most importantly in her “own time” she managed to design and crochet her own wedding dress made entirely from fine, Irish crochet motifs.
Her skills are now in great demand developing and producing knit and crochet runway prototypes for some of Britain’s best known, multi award winning design labels. She also designs and creates custom pieces for leading stylist Harry Lambert, including knits for Jo Malone “Snow Day” Xmas 2022 campaign and for Vogue Live 2023. Over the years her work has been photographed on many A-listers.
Ruth is passionate about the importance of craft in fashion. “Keeping the skills alive” has been her sign off for decades and to this end she has taught hundreds of people to knit and crochet; many have gone on to design and sell their own creations and just as important many more benefit from the mindfulness and feelgood factor that these crafts bring.
Her current cohort of learners include 3 visually impaired women.
