Eunice Friend, from the country town of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, England, is a versatile, self-taught artist, excelling in watercolour, pastels and acrylics. Her portfolio spans landscapes, wildlife, florals, and still life.

On her course at the Watermill, she will focus on ink and watercolour, encouraging students to experiment with expressive mark-making (using different tools for lines, textures, and patterns) and colourful washes (layering translucent pigments for depth and luminosity) Eunice will help you to push the boundaries, develop your skills and create stunning artworks.

Eunice’s teaching philosophy

As a tutor, Eunice goes beyond creating her own art and embraces the opportunity to share her techniques with others. By offering classes in various mediums, she provides aspiring artists with the tools and guidance they need to explore their own creativity. Whether teaching online or in-person and en plein air, she creates a supportive and nurturing environment for her students to learn and grow. She says: “Witnessing their progress and seeing their artistic skills gives me a deep sense of fulfilment and fuels my own artistic journey.”

Eunice’s course at the Watermill will concentrate on working with ink and watercolour. She says: “This combination is a great way to explore different artistic techniques and unleash creativity, by encouraging students to experiment with expressive mark making and washes of colour.”

With Eunice’s guidance, students will have the opportunity to explore various mark-making techniques using ink: “They can experiment with different types of pens, brushes, and tools to create lines, textures, and patterns that convey energy in their artwork.”

Students will also delve into the world of watercolour.: “They will learn how to create beautiful washes of colour, applying layers of translucent pigment to build depth and create luminosity.”

Overall, Eunice’s course promises to be an exciting journey of artistic exploration, allowing students to push boundaries, develop their skills, and create stunning artworks.
