Watercolour, ink and mixed media

Celia Bennett is an adventurous artist who uses dynamic brush strokes to express her love of colour and texture. Her landscape and seascape paintings are full of movement, life, and light. She works with mixed media or watercolour for her paintings, and watercolour with ink for her sketches. She enjoys sketching outdoors and capturing the essence of places and people.

She has been teaching weekly art classes to adults for several years, covering a wide range of subjects and different mediums. She has also taught mixed media workshops to adults and children. She loves sharing her passion for drawing and painting. She helps her students grow in confidence as they explore various techniques in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. She believes everyone can learn to paint if they have support and encouragement from a good tutor.

Celia has also mentored other professional artists over the years, helping them to overcome ‘Artist’s Block’, learn new skills, loosen up their style and try new materials and techniques.

She has worked with Winsor and Newton to trial at the Head Office and has regularly demonstrated their products in Art Retailers across the UK.

Celia teaches five lessons per week to more than 70 adults in Sheffield and has previously been a very popular art tutor for Flavours Holidays in Sicily, Puglia and Tuscany.

Celia’s style of teaching

“My lessons are suitable for all levels, from more experienced artists to people who haven’t painted since school. I demonstrate each technique as we go along, so that you can try it whilst it’s fresh in your mind. We’ll sometimes use different materials that I’ve brought along, so that you can explore new ways of painting.

“More experienced artists can work at their own pace if they want to.

“I will demonstrate the many ways of using materials and give regular one-to-one attention to each participant. I’ll help and encourage you to have fun and paint loosely in an intuitive style.

“One of the key things that I’m passionate about is helping students and guests to enjoy the process of drawing and painting, rather than stressing out about everything having to be perfect.

“We will sketch when we are out and about. I’ll demonstrate how you can capture the moment, including figures in motion and/or people sitting enjoying a coffee. We’ll also cover basic perspective, colour theory, composition and drawing buildings in a loose and sketchy style.

“I also enjoy helping students to learn some particularly important watercolour techniques, the importance of the drying stages and the various consistencies of paint that will help you to achieve better results in your paintings.”
