Oils and acrylics (and watercolours)

Melissa Wishart, an outstanding artist in oils and acrylics, lives in Bath in the West of England. She is much in demand as a tutor and artist-in-residence. She says: “I have a special love for the Tuscan landscape and for the sensual and spiritual in Italian art, so I’m delighted to be asked to run a course with the Watermill.”

Melissa was born in Bermuda and lived there until seven years old. Whilst working in London as an 18 year old, Melissa attended St Martins School of Art part-time and attended part-time at Edinburgh College of Art whilst studying for her honours degree at Edinburgh University. Melissa has had regular solo shows over the last fourteen years and her work is in collections round the world. She also exhibits with the Royal Society of Marine Artists at Mall Galleries, London and Bath Society of Artists at Victoria Art Gallery, Bath.

Melissa’s enthusiasm is infectious and her style is to encourage. Her aim is “to build confidence and skills — and bond together, through trials, tribulations and laughter exploring a fascinating subject for a week.”

There will be lots of time for one to one tuition from the tutor as well as periods of instruction and demo when we gather together as a group to explore topics such as

  • Composition
  • Colour mixing
  • Juxtapositions – light/dark, blurry/sharp focus, complementary colours, smooth/textured
  • Mark making
  • How to simplify
  • Beginners and experienced painters are welcome, and you can choose to work in oils, acrylics or watercolours.

Keep up to date with the latest from the Watermill
