We have we have two rooms left on Rebecca de Mendonça’s pastel week at the end of this month. One is the Fra Angelico, named after the saintly monk who was, among other things, responsible for the wonderful paintings in the Monastery of San Marco in Florence; the other is the Vasari suite, celebrating the Renaissance polymath Giorgio Vasari: artist, architect, town planner and author of the world’s very first book on the History of Art. (The Fra Angelico is ideal for one person; the Vasari suite is for two people sharing, although we are happy with single occupancy.)
This stunning pastel below by our Watermill tutor Rebecca de Mendonça is of the view as the sun sets over the valley of the River Rosaro, with Posara in the distance. Rebecca, a wonderful English pastellist, will be with us from Saturday 27 August to Saturday 3 September 2022 for another of her popular weeks. We would love you to join her and get your hands gloriously dirty capturing with her vibrant pastel scenes from our beautiful local area.
Here’s Rebecca’s painting of the river Rosaro itself, as it gushes past the Watermill, an ever-present soothing background to your stay here.
And from the wonders of nature to the man-made wonder of the village and castle of Verrucola, where we go to paint on Mondays, before enjoying a delicious traditional Italian lunch in the trattoria in the village.
English pastellist Rebecca de Mendonça’s teaching and painting are the result of a varied career in the arts. Having completed her degree in Theatre Design, she worked on projects ranging from Harrods Food Hall to the Phantom of the Opera and has been commissioned to paint dancers at English National Ballet and actors in West End Shows. Rebecca will help you to capture the architecture and landscape of the beautiful Watermill painting venues with a combination of materials: soft pastels, pen and ink, Conte crayons and pastel pencils, separately and in combination, to achieve lively sketches and finished pieces.
Ten people are already booked into Rebecca’s week, so we have room for a couple more aspiring pastellists (and their non-painting partners, if they would like to join them.). Please click on the link below for more details.
Here’s another of my favourite Rebecca pastels, this one called Sitting on the Steps.
