Today it is the last in our series of blogs on how our Watermill tutors choose different scenes, and paint them in distinctive styles and genres, when we are out on location during our painting weeks.
On our last day we go to the thousand-year-old village of Monte dei Bianchi, with extraordinary views of the towering Apuan Alps (the marble mountains of Carrara) in the background. You can choose to paint in the ancient village itself or in the grounds of the gourmet restaurant of Al Vecchio Tino, where Claudio the owner is preparing our lunch. But, before that, there is our own work to be done: shall paint in the village itself, or try and capture the mountains? Or how about one of those other little villages on hilltops across the valley? That’s what Keiko Tanabe chose for her striking watercolour above.
Tim Wilmot chose to paint the mountains from the restaurant grounds:
And here’s Maggie Renner Hellmann’s quick acrylic of valley and mountains…
Trevor Lingard enjoyed painting the narrow village streets…
While Mike Willdridge went almost abstract in this quirky sketch of olive trees.
And he couldn’t resist the washing…
While Terry Jarvis was captivated by an old door…
Yet more wonderful scenes to paint on a Watermill week. We’ve already looked at scenes in and around the Watermill, at the nearby castle and fortified village of Verrucola, at market day in the walled mediaeval town of Fivizzano, at the elegant squares of the city of Lucca and the amazing fishing villages of the Cinque Terre, and finally, the hilltop village of Monte dei Bianchi with its views of the marble mountains of Carrara.
But why not come and join us and see for yourself? Our 2022 painting courses are filling fast, but we still have a few places left. There are details and links below.
