It is that delightful time of year again, when we are finishing off our current season and looking forward, at last, to a full season of creative courses at the Watermill next year.
Now is the time when we introduce (or re-introduce) old friends and new members of the inspiring and talented Watermill tutors’ team. You will be meeting them all over the next few days and weeks.
First up, we are delighted to welcome Mary Padgett , who we have been looking forward to meeting for some time now, but the dratted coronavirus got in the way. Now it looks as if she’s going to make it, at last.
Mary, from Syracuse, New York, USA, is a passionate pastellist. She is noted for her use of colour and for her enthusiasm for painting on location.
Mary says: “There is no better way to visit Italy than as a plein air artist! We’ll focus on observation with all our senses; looking, listening, and smelling the unique character of the Tuscan landscape to create drawings and paintings from the experience. Our time in Italy will be richer than that of most tourists who simply pass through.â€
Mary will work in soft pastel, but is also skilled in oils and acrylics and is happy to help those who would like to paint in those mediums too. She says: “My role is to create a supportive working environment, which will encourage creative exploration, and further each participant’s evolution as an artist.â€
A comment by one of Mary’s students: “You were instructive, helpful and inspiring as a teacher. You went out of your way to help beginners as well as more advanced artists with technique and enjoyment of the process.â€
Another said: “You are a marvellous teacher and analyst of art, and it was really eye-opening and interesting to hear what you had to say about everyone’s art…â€
Come and be passionate about pastels with Mary next spring in Tuscany. She will be with us from Saturday 30 April to Saturday 7 May 2022. Link below.
