This charming watercolour was painted by our guest Grace McKee during last week’s painting course with Mike Willdridge – and she has donated it to the Watermill.
It is a lovely, gentle painting, Grace: we shall have it framed, then make sure that it hangs proudly at the Watermill. Thank you very much for the kind gift.
The demijohns in the Watermill courtyard have inspired our guests for many years and been the subject of paintings in many styles and genres.
The demijohns (damigiane in Italian) were used in the old days for fermenting wine, but these days people tend to use stainless steel drums and they throw these beautiful old glass vessels away. Our gardener Flavio Terenzoni has been collecting them and we are happy to store them in the Watermill courtyard, where they have provided inspiration for many of our guests. They also inspired us to make another of those short, fun Facebook slideshows, which you can see by clicking here.
Why not join us on one of our remaining renowned painting courses in September and October and have a go at painting the demijohns yourself?
Reserve yourself a space now. You know you deserve it!
Below is the up-to-date list of our internationally renowned creative courses. And remember, you will be Cool and Green at the Watermill: all our rooms are fully air-conditioned part by our hidden photovoltaic cells which make us self-sufficient in electricity.
