How pleasant to be able to use a headline ‘And the good news is…!’
But it really is good news for our American friends planning a visit to Italy for a creative week at the Watermill. As of tomorrow, Friday 18 June, the USA has been placed on a European Union ‘white list’, allowing the return of American tourists, even if they have not been vaccinated. (Each European country can make its own regulations and we are waiting for Italy to confirm just what its rules will be. As soon as we know, we will let you know!)
So why not make the great escape, the perfect antidote to the coronavirus blues: a week-long relaxing creative course of the Watermill, with inspiring tuition, stunning scenery, warm hospitality, delicious food and wine and the convivial company of like-minded people?
We have two American tutors this year and their courses are already proving very popular, but we still have spaces. The first ‘American’ course is with Randy Hale, an exciting watercolourist from Denver, Colorado. His course will run from Saturday 21 August to Saturday, 28 August 2021.
After a successful business career, Randy returned to his first love, watercolour painting.
But his true passion has proved to be in sharing his knowledge as a teacher and workshop instructor. One of Randy’s students said: “Randy knows his stuff and he knows how to teach! The best watercolor instructor I have ever had!†Another said: “He’s an excellent artist and instructor, offering clear and positive help.â€

We are also delighted to welcome Brienne M Brown, whose watercolour course is from Saturday, 18 September to Saturday, 25 September 2001.
Brienne, from Pennsylvania in the USA, is passionate about watercolor and plein air painting. She says: “I find beauty in everyday life. Each painting reminds me of where I was, the experiences I had, the sounds, smells, and the people I met … and I enjoy sharing how I see the world.†Brienne adds: “Painting in Italy is just a dream come true.â€
Using strong value sketches, bold washes, and quick energetic strokes, Brienne will show you how to bring excitement into your paintings. No watercolor skill is necessary, but some drawing experience is recommended.
A comment from a previous student: “Brienne goes through each step guiding you through the process clearly while demonstrating her techniques and approach. I would highly recommend her workshop to ANYONE, be it a beginner or an advanced painter.â€
Brienne’s course is currently fully booked but there are usually some cancellations, so if you’d like to come, please let us know and we’ll put you on the waiting list.
