Our new Watermill painting tutor Belinda Biggs has sent me a couple of charming pen and wash paintings she made on holiday in Norfolk, England. Above is a windmill in the Norfolk Broads. Belinda says: “This small pen & wash from one of my travel journals was quick to jot down for later use in a larger painting or just a lovely memory for when you return home.â€
Here’s another holiday memory from Norfolk: an archway at Castle Acre.
Belinda and you will be capturing similar memories when you join her course at the Watermill this summer, painting the glorious countryside of Lunigiana which surrounds the mill. You’ll also enjoy a mediaeval castle, a tranquil 17th-century monastery and a hilltop village with towering mountains behind.
You will be able to paint scenes like the one below, a pen and wash, of flower-decked steps in a village in Umbria, Italy, also made a painting holiday by Belinda. She says: “I like to encourage my students to create in a more laid-back style. In this picturesque part of Tuscany we will paint and draw everything from everyday objects to the beautiful scenery.â€
Belinda will be with us for a week from Saturday 8 July until Saturday 15 July 2023. A comment from one of her previous students: “I find Belinda to be an excellent teacher who is very generous in sharing her wealth of expertise. She is always kind, patient and encouraging. I am blessed to spend time with her and continue to be inspired by her incredible works.â€
***Don’t forget you will be Cool and Green at the Watermill: all our public rooms (including the studio) and all our bedrooms are air-conditioned, powered by our hidden array of photovoltaic panels which make us self-sufficient in electricity.
