Profile

Sarah is an experienced workshop tutor and loves to teach new techniques and inspire confidence in others. This will be her third visit to the Watermill. She says: “You have created something truly unique in the Tuscan countryside! The perfect location to relax, reflect and inspire creativity.”

You will find more about Sarah on her website, www.sarah-hazell.com, where you will find small, stand-alone collections with an emphasis on creating sustainable clothes and accessories. “I work with a range of yarn suppliers in order to bring depth and variety to my work and more choice to the knitter or crocheter."

In 2017 she was teaching knitting in India, where she led a two-week holiday, raising funds for the Knit for Peace charity. “I also worked with women in one of the projects that the charity supports and I have returned full of inspiration for a new collection and tremendous enthusiasm for sharing my skills.”

Knitting projects

In 2019 you'll be working with Sarah on a brand-new project based on one of her most successful designs – The Phoebe Poncho. Sarah says: "I have also been listening to your feedback and am aware that lots of knitters want to understand how they can alter an existing pattern to get a better fit.” So this year’s project at the Watermill will focus on just that – by demonstrating how a simple folded poncho can be altered for different heights, body shape, arm length and necklines."

Sarah will bring all the yarn you need for the poncho (8 balls of 100g, Cotton-mix, Aran-weight, so that it grows quickly) and that you’ll be able to choose your colour before you come. Sarah's instruction will include how to record measurements; make decisions about sleeve and body length; decide on a stitch pattern and work on a neckline; as well as finishing techniques like sewing up and blocking.

You will also have the perfect opportunity to make new friends in the company of like-minded people learning new knitting techniques and tips from Sarah ... and enjoying the true, unspoilt Bella Vita.
