2017/18 Knitting holiday programme

Each of our knitting holidays at The Watermill at Posara, Tuscany, enjoys SEVEN nights at the watermill, with full board.

We should emphasise that absolutely EVERYTHING is included in the cost of your holiday: tuition, patterns for knitting projects, accommodation (including all linen and towels), pre-dinner aperitifs, all meals (including delicious meals with wine prepared specially for you at the mill, and at charming local restaurants) and local transportation (including transfers to Pisa airport; an excursion by train to Lucca or the Cinque Terre).

All you have to do is get to Pisa (and bring your needles!): we do the rest!

2017 Programme

Sarah Hazell - Knitting Tutor

Sarah Hazell

"Knitting and La Bella Vita"

Sarah is a designer in knit and crochet, and author of several books. She says, “I have a passion for beautiful yarn and textiles and am endlessly fascinated by colour, pattern and texture”.

Sarah’s workshop at the mill will show you to elevate your knits from homemade to handmade demonstrating, in particular, the art of designing triangular and crescent-shaped shawls. She will show you shaping techniques – including short rows – and how to create your own designs. Each session will focus on an aspect of shawl construction or finishing, including casting on and casting off as well as edgings. She will also be featuring crocheted edgings as mini-sessions to coincide with participants working on their own designs. There will also be a choice of two projects to run alongside the more in-depth workshops and you will be given a choice of colourways prior to the project. Sarah says: “I have chosen Erika Knight’s Studio Linen as our project yarn. Italy is famous for its linen; it will be beautifully cool to work with and it is spun and dyed in Italy!”

Sarah is also more than happy for participants to bring along their own projects and offer advice/assistance with those.  You are encouraged to bring along garments you would like to try and recreate (handknit or store bought), patterns you would like to amend etc. And If you have yarn in your stash that you are keen to make a simple garment from, but no pattern, now is your chance!

Marie Wallin - Knitting Tutor

Marie Wallin

"Knitting and La Bella Vita"

Marie is Head Designer for Rowan and over the eight years since she joined the Rowan team, she has built up a global reputation for her beautiful patterns, colourwork and stitch designs. She says: “I love to put colour together to create interesting fabric designs and to create beautiful knitwear that I hope everyone will love to wear”. Her first exclusive book ‘Windswept’ was launched last year and is selling fast all over the world.

Marie is also an enthusiastic, sympathetic and inspirational tutor and her courses at the watermill win universal praise from the participants. In your week at the mill with Marie your two projects will tackle Fairisle and mosaic knitting.

Lisa Richardson - Knitting Tutor

Lisa Richardson

"Knitting and La Bella Vita"

Lisa’s name is instantly associated with the Rowan pattern house. In addition to her designer role, she manages the pattern editing process and mentors newer members of the design team.

She says, “My biggest drive is to people create something that they will cherish for years to come”.

Lisa is an enthusiastic, sympathetic and inspirational tutor, winning much praise from her workshop participants. For her week-long course at the mill she has devised two specially designed projects for you to knit: one that fully justifies her label as ‘slip stitch queen’, the other demonstrates filet crochet (but with a knitted option for those that prefer to knit). In addition, Lisa will be demonstrating the art of embellishment for those knitters who are happiest knitting in stocking stitch but want to add colour and pattern to their project with embroidery.
