These are the painting holidays at the Watermill at Posara for 2010. Each course enjoys SEVEN nights at the watermill, with full board, and there are SIX full days of tuition. We should emphasise that absolutely EVERYTHING is included in the cost of your holiday: transfers to and from Pisa airport, tuition, accommodation, all meals (including wines) and local transportation. Once you arrive in Pisa you need not spend another pound (or Euro!).

Fergal Flanagan
Gouache, watercolours and pastels
Fergal Flanagan is a leading Irish painter, specialising in oils, gouache and watercolours. He works in the wonderful rural setting of the Glendarrach studios in County Wicklow, which he finds very conducive to creative work. Since he began painting full time more than 20 years ago, Fergal has had seven major exhibitions. He has also painted in many locations around the world, notably in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Laos, producing warm, vibrant landscapes.
Fergal is an accomplished and sympathetic teacher, working at the Burren Painting Centre in County Clare and also on painting holidays in Tuscany and Sardinia. He paints mainly in gouache and oils (although airport security won’t let him bring oils to Italy), but also in watercolour, pastels and mixed media.

John Christian
Watercolours
We are delighted to welcome John back to the mill this year. He’s been several times before and loves the place. John is such an enthusiastic and sympathetic tutor and his courses are full of fun. He works in ‘pure’ watercolour in a fast spontaneous manner, to capture emotion, with a large brush and a limited palette.
His ‘wet into wet’ technique is acclaimed and widely admired. His favoured subjects are from nature – woods, rivers, moorland, hills, and skies – and he is an avid exponent of painting (and sketching) on the spot. John contributes to Leisure Painter and has held numerous one-man exhibitions.

Guy Gruwier
Watercolours
Guy is considered to be one of Belgium’s leading watercolour artists. He paints in a ‘realistic-romantic’ style and he passes on his insights and skills with love and patience. Previous students on Guy’s courses remember him as a gifted, patient and very helpful teacher. He likes to help students (beginners are welcome) by first identifying what makes a good subject and then building up for a ‘wow’ effect. His colours are very basic, but he applies them with a vivid and strong touch so as to achieve the maximum of contrast and depth into the final result.
Guy has won several prestigious European awards for his watercolours and has taught at workshops all over Europe and in Australia and New Zealand.

Liz Seward Relfe
Watercolours
Liz has a widespread reputation for still life, floral, and landscape paintings (many of which have been reproduced as greetings cards and prints by major companies). Her main inspirations are light, colour, and the heathland landscape around her home in Lightwater, Surrey. Her early artistic career included a period at the Natural History Museum where she illustrated publications and lectures of zoologists working there. Later she was tutor at weekly classes in drawing, watercolours, and mixed media.
Liz now concentrates on a busy schedule demonstrating to Art Societies throughout the country and teaching at residential courses. She writes regular articles for The Artist magazine and has had numerous exhibitions all over the world.

Freda Alschuler
Watercolours
Freda is a full-time artist and teacher, born in England and now living in Switzerland. Freda has taught in art schools and run painting holidays in America and Europe.
While her course will concentrate on watercolours, Freda is also happy to teach acrylics and mixed media.

Annelise Pio Hansen
Watercolours
Annelise is a regular and very popular tutor at the watermill. She often brings a group of fun-loving Danish students, who like to meet like-minded artists from other nationalities. Annelise came to painting as a better way to understand the creative process; at the time she was a fiction editor and art director in book publishing and with a weekly magazine. She studied her watercolour technique in England but she has retained her Danish influence.
Her colours are soft but bright, just like the light reaching the sandy beaches and the soft hills not far from where she lives just outside Copenhagen.

Laraine Simpson
Oils, pastels, watercolours etc
Laraine is a Fine Arts-Painting graduate of Central School of Art & Design (now Central St. Martins), London. She is highly regarded as a perceptive, patient and encouraging tutor working with beginners and advanced students alike, her main aim being to teach people to ‘see’ the relationships of line, tone, shape, colour etc which are fundamental to drawing and painting.
Laraine works in oils, pastels, watercolours, and a variety of drawing materials. Her main inspiration is the wonderful interplay of light on surfaces, particularly the human form and landscape, and also animals and architecture.

Charles Sluga
Watercolours
Charles is a highly respected and sought after artist and watercolour teacher in Australia. His friendly and enthusiastic approach, and eagerness to impart his wide knowledge, is reflected in his popularity as a tutor, and the waiting lists for his regular classes. He has gained a reputation for his versatility in both his technique and choice of subject matter.
He is a regular contributor to Australian Artist magazine and is currently writing articles for the International Artist magazine and the British magazine Leisure Painter and working on his first book on watercolour painting.
