  • Classic Venice
Watercolour painting executed in the studio from an on-site sketch. The work started with a simple monochrome mono-print. This was enhanced with watercolour washes and water-soluble pencils, gently teasing the image to resolution without losing atmosphere and light. This is a useful technique for interpretation of sketches into more developed paintings.
  • Sunflowers and Lilies
This painting is built up using washes of watercolour, and applying acrylic inks to develop depth of tone and drama. This technique explores the properties of different media and capitalises on the effects.
  • Hares and Hound
Mono print produced with simple printing techniques, and no need of presses or other technical equipment. A lovely way to reproduce and develop images while building on personal understanding of positive and negative shapes.
  • Sky, Land Sea
This landscape painting was built up by glazing layers of watercolour, with repeated lifting off to retain the light. The soft edges achieved add to the atmosphere and distance. Some watercolour pencil has been used for detail.

Course dates

25 July - 1 Aug 2009

Susie Hunt is a stimulating and thoughtful tutor who encourages students at all levels of ability. Her courses specialise in watercolour, mixed media and life work. There is plenty of outdoor sketching (using a variety of materials) and then Susie will help to develop these sketches into more resolved paintings in the studio.

Susie has a strong foundation in traditional techniques, with a BA (Hons) Fine Art – Painting, and from this traditional base, she moves her pupils gently into the contemporary use of water-based media

As well as teaching for the Adult Education Service and giving private lessons, Susie has led painting groups at home and abroad for many years. She has had one-woman shows in England, Scotland and Norway and exhibited with the Royal Watercolour Society at Bankside Galleries, the Royal Institute at the Mall Galleries and the Society of Women Artists at Westminster Halls, all in London.
